Alderson Broaddus University’s mission is to “provide students with the highest quality education, striving to prepare students to succeed in their chosen disciplines and to fulfill their roles in a diverse society as well-rounded and responsible citizens.” The HLC regionally accredits the University and it has been recognized as a Military Friendly School.
AB has been an independent learning institution for over 150 years. The campus is located in West Virginia along the beautiful Tygart River Valley. A student enrollment of around 2,500 keeps class sizes small but offers many opportunities for socialization.
Education
The educational experience at AB is based upon the core values of communication, civic engagement, ethics, diversity, and critical thinking. These learning outcomes are a part of all programs, including those available through the College of Business. C.o.B. students have the opportunity to major in Accounting, Business Administration, Marketing, or Sports Management. Minors can be completed in those same areas with the addition of Entrepreneurship or Health Management. The curriculum emphasizes experiential learning, real-world business problems, as well as group projects.
Students are encouraged to take their learning outside of the classroom through internships. The Business Club and Phi Beta Lambda are very active and have won national and statewide competitions. The College also assists groups of students in entering a statewide business planning competition.
Alderson Broaddus students have many ways to financially support their decision to complete a degree. Academic, need-based, and legacy scholarships are all offered through the University itself. They also connect students with state scholarships, local, and federal grants.
Student Life
There are seven resident halls on campus that make living on campus stress-free. RoomSync software collects data to match roommates based on several levels of compatibility. Another way for students to meet and create lasting relationships is through student organizations. Participants come together over topics like Outdoor Club, Black Student Union, International Student Organization, and Power of Women. Religious and service organizations include AB Missions Team, Baptist Campus Ministries, FBCA, and NOVO. The Missions Team works to give students opportunities to participate in cross-cultural mission work alongside AMOS, Urban Promise, and the AB Men of WV Disaster Relief Team.
The Office of Career Services meets with students to discuss the requirements of their degree plan, choosing a major, and the graduate application process. They also assist with career readiness activities like cover letter/resume development, mock interviews, job fairs, and identifying appropriate internship opportunities.
Many students participate in athletic programs. Supporting the sports teams is also a fun pass-time and a way to engage with the larger school community. A few of the teams include tumbling, football, rugby, lacrosse, volleyball, and wrestling.
