Capella University was established in 1993. Since then, the University has grown and currently educates over 38,000 students. The average Capella student is 39 years old, with many responsibilities. This idea shapes the learning experience and is why there are many accommodations in place to make completing a quality degree as convenient as possible. In fact, the mission of Capella University is “to extend access to high-quality bachelor’s, master’s, specialist, doctoral, and certificate programs for adults who seek to maximize their personal and professional potential.” There are 53-degree options, with many from the School of Business and Technology. All programs are online, but there are two unique delivery options that can be customized to students’ preferred learning style.
Education
A Bachelor’s of Science in Business is offered through the School of Business and Technology. There are 10 comprehensive specialization options, such as Management and Leadership, Marketing, Project Management, and Business Administration. Eighty-eight percent of professors at Capella hold a doctorate degree. This high level of education in teachers shows the University’s commitment to providing students with a comprehensive degree. Business students can also earn an MBA or Master’s of Science in Human Resource Management. The Human Resource Management degree focuses on resume development, certification preparation, networking, and career support.
Student Life
Fully online universities can often feel impersonal or confusing. At Capella, the student support team helps students find the tools for success even before they are officially students. Enrollment Counselors can help navigate finding a program that is the right fit based on career goals, and Financial Aid Counselors are available to help students determine how to finance their degree. As a military-friendly school, Capella also offers special assistance and incentives to active duty members, veterans, and their families. Academic advisors, tutors, writing support, technology support, and student communities are all a part of the Capella support system. The business curriculum is competency-based, which means that rather than a traditional set up with studying for a test, students will be asked to show their full understanding of a subject in a variety of ways. These include assessment through practical applications and demonstration of mastery of core competencies. This is shown with criteria goals, grading, and competency maps, which help students track their progress.
Online Programs
The online MBA program at Capella University offers two distinct online learning options. The Flex Path allows students to create a truly personalized learning experience. This format is competency-based and includes individualized deadlines for those who are very organized and intrinsically driven. The Guided Path provides a slightly more traditional and structured program with the same objectives and goals. Guided Path participants complete weekly modules and discussion boards in sequential order. Specializations are available in Health Care Management, Human Resource Management, or Project Management.
